Dear R/C Modeling Enthusiast,
Thank you for visiting our website. Here are some details about our
FLEET kits.
We manufacture two sizes of the same airplane, the 1930
FLEET Model 2. (We no longer produce the.40 size "Barnstormer, Travel Air, or
Kraft Super Fli, though plans are still available). Our 1/4 scale FLEET has been
in continuous production since 1977.
Both kits are very similar in many
respects. The models, structurally, are very scale-like. Wing rib spacing,
stabilizer rib shape and spacing, rudder and fin outline and structure, fuselage
longeron and cross bracing all are scaled quite accurately from factory drawings
and data. This yields a very high strength to weight ratio. Additional plywood
and spruce gussets are used where essential. Balsa, spruce, and plywood are the
main materials in the airframe. Construction is reminiscent of the old stick and
tissue models.
Both kits include all precision band-sawed parts, (no
diecutting). Wire Cabane struts and landing gear wires are pre-bent. All
necessary balsa and plywood, and all necessary balsa and spruce strips to
complete the airframe and all the necessary airframe hardware are included. Full
size plans are rolled, and drawn so that replacement components can be cut and
built from them. The 1/4 scale FLEET kit includes two 36 x 72 inch plan sheets,
and the 1/6 scale FLEET kit, includes one 36 x 72 inch plan.
Complete
assembly instructions including numerous photos guide the builder through the
assembly, and though construction is very straight forward, There are some
unique features designed into the kits. Also included are Three-views of the
structure of the full size aircraft along with numerous detail photos and
historical background on the FLEET Model 2. (Please refer to other pages on our
website.)

The Quarter scale FLEET, when powered with a Quadra 35 is
VERY aerobatic, and because of its size and relatively light wing loading, flies
rather slow even through aerobatics. Other engines used with great success range
from the Saito 1.20- 4cy. Super Tiger 2500, 3000, 4500, O.S. 5 cyl, Zenoah G-38,
G-45, U S Engines 41,Quadra42.
The 1/6 scale FLEET was designed
specifically for the Astro Geared 40 Sport electric motor powered by 18 cells of
1400 to 1700mah capacity and is a very lively acrobatic performer with flights
running consistently around 7 minutes. This model however is easily convertible
to .25 -.40-2cy. or preferably .43 -.53-4cy. glow engines. Instructions are
included on the plans and the kit includes the necessary conversion parts.
Though dummy cylinders are not included in the kits. Williams Bros. 1/6
and 1/4 scale Wright Whirlwind plastic cylinders available through your favorite
Hobby supplier, provide a very realistic representation of the original Kinner
engine used on the FLEET Model 2. Cowls in both kits are built up from balsa and
plywood components included in the kits, however, if you prefer, both Fiberglas
Specialties, and Precision Fiberglas stock cowls for both kits.
Available through your Hobby Dealer or Direct. Please allow 2 - 4 weeks
