What is Shake It Up!?
Being gay or lesbian is not, in and of itself, a compelling enough
reason to build community. Thus the need for groups with common interests
that create bonds between people. We need to Shake It Up!.
Listen Up!
We want to...
- Stimulate active social involvement
- Includes people of diversity - ethnic, racial, gender and social class
- Seeks to "create a more perfect union" for what is citizenship
without community?
- Look at old things in a new way
- Stimulates activities for minds and bodies
But,
- Is not a meat market or therapy group
- Is not a social or social support group
- Will not shy away from controversy or conflict about
ideas
- Is a sense of community coming out of mutual participation in interesting
activities.
Shake It Up!
is an experiment, therefore nothing is etched in stone. We offer
- An exercise in flexibility
- An energetic core membership
- Quality of experience over quantity
- Exciting, committed, diverse perople with diverse ideas and many interests
- Ongoing communication, a printed calendar
- Activities that have an impact on the rest of your life
- A range of activity types
- Where people get to know each other
