| I got the divisions for these dwarf iris plants from a friend who is an iris fanatic. The top one is one whose identity has been lost to me. The one below it is 'Gingerbread Man.' The petals are an amazing combination of colors that reads as a greenish brown from a distance, but up close are iridescent gold, green, bronze with a bright blue beard. |

This little gem is Iris pumila 'Brassie.' It blooms in early spring and grows a mere four to five inches tall. I only have one of this particular variety, but think it would make a nice groundcover around later-emerging perennials.
This bright blue flower is Iris reticulata. It grows from a bulb planted in the fall that then blooms early the following spring. The leaves then elongate and look a little messy before dying back. It's a great little plant coming at a time when its color echoes that of the sky on a clear spring day. Remember or mark where it is planted so you don't forget and plant something over it later in the season.
