This plant has grown very well for me so this year I've added a couple
more specimens to the planting. I saw Ligularia planted in
some rather thick beds on a garden tour this summer and was impressed at
the effect the masses of purple-stemmed leaves made together. I got
this plant and a cultivar called 'Desdemona' at the same time and planted
them together. 'Othello' did well and thrived but 'Desdemona' didn't
fare so well. That plant languished and died, apparently smothered
by the more vigorous 'Othello.' Isn't that ironic?
