  Ignition wires

Bosch silicone spark plug wire is routinely subjected to the most strenuous product testing standards to make sure it meets or exceeds OE requirements.

Dielectric strength test
The wire is exposed to 350°F for three hours and then tested for insulation breakdown at high voltage. This test confirms that the wire will deliver maximum voltag to the spark plugs even with extreme under-hood temperatures.

Hot oil test
The wire is submerged in oil heated to over 200°F and left there for more than 36 hours. After cooling, it is wrapped around a mandrel and exposed to 350°F for three hours. This test demonstrates whether or not the wire can withstand exposure to oil, antifreeze, grease and other typical automotive chemicals without cracking or swelling.

Accelerated heat aging test
The wire is subjected to temperatures exceeding 350°F continuously for eight days and then cooled to room temperature. The wire conductor is resistance-tested and the insulation is tested for breakdown at high voltage. This test ensures that the wire will withstand prolonged exposure to the high temperatures typical of today's engine compartments.

Corona test
The wire is exposed to 350°F temperature for 24 hours, then subjected to 15,000 volts for one hour. This testing continues for four days. Purpose? To ensure that the wire will deliver maximum voltage to the spark plugs without any leakage.

Additional testing:

  • Terminal retention testing ensures that the terminals remain attached to the wires after repeated removal from the spark plug
  • Hardness testing ensures that the silicone jacket is tough enough to withstand heat and chemicals, yet flexible enough to stand up under engine vibration and torsional stress
  • Water capacitance testing verifies that the wire set materials and construction are water resistant
  • Life cycle testing compresses years of abuse into a short period of time. Wire set durability is proven by simulating long term, real life operating conditions
