BWCAW map data for trip planning
What is in the data
This data shows the locations of campsites and portages in the BWCAW.
The data are in Street Atlas USA 4 format (DeLorme).
This format may also be read by versions 5, 6 and 7 of Street Atlas USA.

Use of the data
The data are useful for planning a trip in the BWCAW. Locations of
campsites and portages for the whole BWCAW may be reviewed quickly and
easily. Most people, however, will find that the maps do not have
enough detail for route finding in BWCAW. Please see my information
on detailed maps.
Software required to use the data
You must own a copy of DeLorme Street
Atlas USA version 4 or latter to use this data. The data has
only been tested with the Windows version of Street Atlas USA.
Source of the data
The data are courtesy of the United
States Department of Agriculture Forest Service (USFS).
Note on accuracy and possible errors
I have tested some of this data in the BWCAW and found it to be fairly
accurate. However, the data can be expected to contain errors.
The data has NOT been tested to meet national map accuracy or other standards.
Typical errors may include but are not limited to:

Campsites listed in the wrong location.

Campsites listed that cannot be found.

Campsites that exist, but are not included in the data.

Portages not listed in the data because of human error, the work of beavers,
or low water.

Portages listed in the wrong location.

The data are contained in a self extracting ".exe" file. To extract
the data download bwcawsa4.exe into a directory of your choosing.
Run bwcawsa4.exe by using Run... in the Windows start menu. bwcaw.sa4
is extracted.
Please note bwcaw.sa4 is copyrighted. You may use and redistribute
bwcaw.sa4 for any noncommercial purpose as long as you also distribute
the original "readme.txt" file.
